The Future Made in Australia Innovation Fund — Green Metals stream is a A$750 million grant program administered by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) under the Australian Government's Future Made in Australia policy framework. The stream targets pre-commercial innovation, demonstration, and early deployment projects in low-emission metals manufacturing, with a particular focus on green steel, green aluminium, and related supply-chain decarbonization. It is the largest of the three priority streams within the FMIA Innovation Fund. The program opened in December 2025 and remains open until the A$750 million pool is fully committed — there is no fixed annual deadline.

Eligible applicants include for-profit companies, universities, nonprofit organizations, and research institutions; individual applicants are excluded. Projects must be based in and targeting Australian manufacturing operations. Award sizes per project are not published on the program landing page and are governed by the priority-stream Guidelines PDF; ARENA's standard approach involves negotiated co-funding agreements rather than fixed award tiers. The absence of a hard deadline, combined with a finite pool, means earlier applications may have an advantage as the available budget diminishes over time.

The green metals stream is designed to bridge the commercialization gap for technologies that reduce the carbon intensity of iron, steel, and aluminium production — areas where Australia holds competitive advantages in raw material supply but faces cost and scale barriers to zero-emission processing. Competitive proposals will typically demonstrate credible pathways from current TRL to commercial scale, quantifiable emissions reductions, and alignment with Australia's national industrial transformation objectives under the Future Made in Australia Act.

Funds pre-commercial innovation and demonstration projects in low-emission metals manufacturing — green steel, green aluminium, and related supply chains — through ARENA's A$750 million FMIA stream.
