GAČR Standard Projects is the flagship annual basic-research grant programme of the Czech Science Foundation (GAČR — Grantová agentura České republiky), the only public institution in the Czech Republic dedicated exclusively to funding basic research. Standard Projects are open to researchers at any career stage with no doctoral-age restriction, and cover all scientific fields without thematic constraints. The 2027-cycle tender was announced on 9 February 2026, with a submission deadline of 31 March 2026, results expected on 26 November 2026, and funded projects starting January 2027. Submissions are made through GRITA (grita.gov.cz), GAČR's online submission system introduced in 2026.
In the comparable 2026-start cohort, GAČR funded 336 Standard Projects from a CZK 3.0 billion (approximately €124 million) total pool. The historical success rate is approximately 14%, described by GAČR itself as historically low due to budget constraints. Individual project award caps and budget rules are published in the tender PDF document rather than the public announcement page. Projects run for a maximum of 3 years, consistent with the programme's long-standing duration policy since its founding in 1993. Eligible applicants must be hosted at Czech universities, public research institutions, or eligible non-profit research organisations; for-profit entities are excluded. International cooperation is possible through GAČR's Lead Agency mechanism with Austria (FWF), Germany (DFG), Poland (NCN), Slovenia (ARIS), Switzerland (SNSF), Luxembourg (FNR), and Croatia (HRZZ).
Evaluation follows GAČR's standard process: proposals are reviewed by discipline committees, expert panels, and external international reviewers. Budget constraints in the 2027 cycle modified rules governing concurrent project submissions, and applicants should consult the tender PDF checklist before submitting. GAČR is a member of Science Europe and the Global Research Council, and uses leading international peer-review standards. The programme is the primary route for Czech academic researchers seeking multi-year basic-research funding across physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, social sciences, and humanities.
