Carbon sinks and sources on land and in the ocean are central to climate scenarios, but their drivers and magnitudes remain uncertain. Improve understanding and quantification of land, inland-water and ocean carbon dioxide sources and sinks, their natural and anthropogenic drivers, and their behaviour under past, present and future climate and land-use scenarios. Each proposal selects one area: A, oceanic CO₂ sources and sinks; B, land CO₂ sources and sinks; or C, reconciliation of different land-use CO₂ estimates. Work addresses lateral carbon transfers, mitigation and carbon-removal implications, consistent data and models, open access to new or substantially improved models and tools, and coordination with ESA FutureEO Carbon Cluster projects and relevant international partners.
