Horizon Long-Range Electric Waterborne Transport
Funds two €10M projects to extend electric vessels beyond 150 nautical miles with rapid charging, safer batteries and durable whole-vessel energy management.
Fully battery-electric vessels need more range, power and durable batteries without compromising safety, schedules or economic viability. This topic funds two large Innovation Actions to demonstrate electric operation for ferries, short-sea shipping, offshore vessels and inland vessels under representative conditions.

Demonstrating fully battery-electric ferries, short-sea, offshore and inland vessels with at least 150 nautical miles or 277.8 km inland range, rapid zero-emission replenishment and peak propulsion power beyond 5 MW. Projects should integrate battery chemistry, monitoring, adaptive energy management, high-power charging, thermal and electrical systems, modular retrofits, safety, lifecycle and end-of-life design, training and TRL 8 vessel demonstrations.
