Horizon Long-Duration Battery Storage Demonstration
Funds two €9.4M innovation projects that demonstrate long-duration battery storage for resilient, sustainable European energy systems.
Europe needs storage that can hold energy for many hours while supporting a more resilient and flexible electricity system. This scheduled Horizon Europe Innovation Action funds two €9.4 million projects to demonstrate system-level long-duration battery energy storage for utility-scale systems or large industrial consumers.\n\nProjects must demonstrate innovative battery technologies or architectu…
Demonstrate system-level long-duration battery energy storage of at least 8 hours for utility-scale energy systems or large industrial consumers. Cover innovative non-commercialised redox-flow, high-temperature, metal-air, multivalent or other battery concepts; define and quantify front-of-the-meter, behind-the-meter or renewable-firming use cases; assess hybridisation with complementary storage; prioritise abundant, low-cost and sustainable materials with scalable European supply chains; integrate digital SOC, SOH, lifetime, BMS and EMS capabilities; and provide measured techno-economic, safety, SSbD, exploitation and deployment evidence for Batt4EU.
