Horizon One Health Livestock Microbiome

Funds two projects to use livestock microbiomes for healthier animals, lower antimicrobial use and safer, more sustainable One Health systems.

ScheduledEuropean CommissionEU

The microbiome links livestock health to the surrounding soil, plants, water and air, and to human health. Understanding those links can help farms prevent disease, reduce antimicrobial use, protect animal welfare and lower environmental impact. This topic funds two projects to develop that knowledge within a One Health framework.

Projects should investigate livestock microbiomes and host–microbi

Research on terrestrial livestock microbiomes within a One Health approach. Projects should connect host microbiomes with animal, human and environmental health; monitor health indicators across livestock, plants and people; model zoonotic disease and antimicrobial-resistance risks; design interventions and holistic health models; and build collaborative platforms, tools and guidance that improve welfare, resilience, productivity and environmental performance.
