Bio-based and biodegradable delivery systems for fertilising products to reduce microplastics pollution & promote soil health
Funds research into bio-based, biodegradable delivery coatings for fertilisers that replace today's microplastic-shedding polymer coatings.
This is a single-stage Research and Innovation Action under the CBE JU's 2025 work programme, expected to fund two projects of EUR 3.5 million each, sharing the same call document and deadline as twelve sibling CBE JU topics. The call wants new bio-based and biodegradable delivery systems for slow/controlled-release fertilisers that can also extend to pesticides and seeds, validated at lab or small-scale field trials for agronomic efficiency and safety. Proposals must assess long-term biodegradability in real soil and, where relevant, fresh, estuarine or marine water conditions. Proposals must also apply the European Commission's safe-and-sustainable-by-design (SSbD) framework to the delivery systems and their breakdown products, across different farming systems including organic agriculture.
