Valorisation of untapped forest biomass
Funds research into new tools and conversion routes that turn low-value forest residues into bio-based chemicals, materials or products beyond bioenergy.
This is a single-stage Research and Innovation Action under the CBE JU's annual work programme, expected to fund two projects of EUR 3.5 million each. The call wants planning tools and conversion technologies for harvesting, storing and pre-treating unused or low-value forest biomass — small wood, damaged wood, bark, resin — into bio-based chemicals, compounds or materials, going beyond bioenergy and biofuel uses. Proposals should adopt decentralised, small-scale or mobile processing units and test the value chain in real pilot areas with forest owners and managers.
