Circular Seafood Supply Chains

Funds €7.2–7.7M projects that turn seafood waste and by-products into circular, profitable and lower-impact ocean value chains.

ScheduledEuropean CommissionEU

Seafood production creates valuable by-products as well as waste, while fisheries and aquaculture face pressure to become more sustainable and circular. This topic funds practical solutions that improve resource use and competitiveness across the seafood value chain.

Projects can recover high-value compounds from trimmings, shells, viscera, seaweed residues or other unavoidable waste, or develop

Test and demonstrate circular solutions for fisheries and aquaculture in at least three real use cases, improving waste management, by-product valorisation, sustainable feed, resource efficiency and local socio-economic benefits. Address one Mission basin or lighthouse, involve producers, processors, technology providers and researchers, use digital tools and predictive models to monitor waste and pollution, respect organic-aquaculture and animal-welfare principles, and make solutions scalable and replicable. Coordinate with Mission Lighthouse CSAs, the Mission Implementation Platform and related circular-bioeconomy projects; in-situ marine data should be FAIR and openly available through EMODnet.
