The Commission wants novel thermal-management systems for electric cars and vans that reduce the driving-range loss caused by extreme heat or cold, targeting at least a 30% cut in range loss between -15°C and +45°C compared with today's vehicles, without adding cost. Proposals should start from user research into thermal comfort and driving habits, then build and demonstrate the resulting energy-management solution in a prototype or mock-up vehicle.
