Safety of Cyclists, Pedestrians and Users of Micromobility Devices

This Research and Innovation Action is a Horizon Europe Cluster 5 call from the European Commission that funds research and city pilots improving safety for pedestrians, cyclists and e-scooter or e-bike users sharing the road. The Commission expects to fund two projects from a topic budget of EUR 10,000,000, paying each grant a fixed lump sum of EUR 5,000,000 under the Commission's 2021 lump-sum dβ¦
Proposals must collect exposure data and identify what causes crashes involving pedestrians, cyclists and micromobility users, then build safety measures tailored to each mode and trip purpose. Work covers the safety effect of cycling-infrastructure design and quality, the potential of vehicle-to-everything technology to cut conflicts between these users and motorised traffic, and best practice in vehicle design that could feed a future EU type-approval framework for micromobility vehicles. Consortia must pilot new infrastructure designs, V2X technologies and local safety rules in at least two real-life urban environments, paying particular attention to people with disabilities, and must align the work with the EU's Vision Zero Strategy and Road Safety Policy Framework 2021-2030.
