GreenBiz was a five-year incubation and acceleration programme delivered by the Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC) and funded by DANIDA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. Running from January 2021 through December 2025, the programme targeted businesses registered and operating in Kenya across KCIC's five thematic sectors: renewable energy and energy efficiency, water management, agribusiness, commercial forestry, and waste management. Its stated goal was to support 300 businesses and generate more than 3,000 full-time jobs.
The programme offered two tracks. The 12-month Incubation track was designed for start-ups and early-stage businesses that had at least a working prototype; it provided intensive practical training and business coaching. The 12-month Accelerator track offered highly individualized support for businesses ready for rapid growth, investor readiness, and active investment raising. Both tracks required legal registration in Kenya; sole proprietorships, partnerships, self-help groups, and CBOs were required to incorporate as limited liability companies within the first three months of joining. Per-enterprise grant amounts were not publicly disclosed in program documentation.
GreenBiz is no longer accepting applications — the programme wound down in December 2025 as its five-year DANIDA funding cycle concluded. Organizations active in KCIC's thematic sectors that need current support should review KCIC's successor programmes such as SWIFT (waste management and circular economy) or AgriBiz (agricultural value chains), both of which remain active. This entry documents the programme structure for historical reference and for organizations that may have applied to or participated in prior cohorts.
