The L-Prize follows on from an earlier Department of Energy lighting prize that once rewarded a high-efficiency LED replacement for the standard 60-watt incandescent bulb, and DOE frames this new prize as pushing solid-state lighting further on efficiency, quality, controls and grid flexibility. Entering the current Manufacturing and Installation Phase starts with registering on the HeroX platformโ€ฆ

The L-Prize targets commercial and institutional building lighting, which uses about 56% of national lighting energy. It wants solid-state lighting systems that combine breakthrough efficacy with strong lighting quality, data-driven controls, innovative design and construction, and grid flexibility.
