The Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries (Nærings- og fiskeridepartementet, NFD) administers an annual grant program supporting municipalities that run youth fishing projects during summer school holidays. The scheme enables youth aged 12–25 to gain hands-on professional experience aboard Norwegian-registered fishing vessels as part of the Directorate of Fisheries' national youth fishing program (ungdomsfiskeordningen). The 2026 cycle carried a total appropriation of approximately 2.28 million NOK distributed across multiple municipalities, funding projects estimated to serve around 362 young participants.

Eligibility is strictly limited to Norwegian municipalities (kommuner); private organizations, associations, and individuals cannot apply. Each project may receive up to 200,000 NOK, and full project financing by the state is not permitted — co-funding from the municipality is required. Projects cannot be stacked with other NFD schemes covering the same activity. Priority criteria reward open participant recruitment, capacity for multiple youth, documented educational content, qualified supervision, and use of vessels registered in Norwegian maritime registers with all required safety certifications.

Applications for the 2026 cycle were submitted to NFD via the form "Søknadsskjema kommunalt ungdomsfisketiltak 2026" by the 23 March 2026 deadline, and the ministry processed all submissions collectively after that date. Projects were required to conclude by 15 October 2026. The scheme follows an annual pattern and a 2027 cycle is expected to open in early 2027. Municipalities seeking to enter should monitor NFD's tilskuddsordninger pages and prepare applications well in advance of the March deadline, ensuring documented co-financing and full vessel-certification compliance.
