Swedish Industry Digital Transformation
Funds Swedish digital transformation projects modernizing manufacturing operations with AI and data-enabled methods.
Swedish Industry Digital Transformation 2026 is one of Vinnova's largest single-cycle grant commitments, with SEK 350 million awarded to six large-scale multi-partner projects in May 2026 to advance the digital transformation of Swedish industry and society. The average project size is approximately SEK 58 million, with individual awards ranging from SEK 20 million to SEK 100 million. Projects are multi-year programmes — typically 36 to 60 months in duration — that bring together Swedish industrial companies, research institutions, and in some cases public-sector partners to develop and deploy advanced digital technology at scale. Industrial partners co-fund at least 50% of total project cost in cash and in-kind, reflecting the programme's focus on market-ready or near-market digital innovation.
Eligibility requires a multi-partner consortium with a minimum of one industrial company and one research institution, both registered and operating in Sweden. The programme is not open to single-organization applications or to entities based outside Sweden. TRL window for eligible projects is 4 to 8 — well past early proof-of-concept and aimed at projects with a credible path to demonstration or deployment. The programme sits within Vinnova's Sustainable Value Chains and Digital Transformation strategic areas, and the 2026 cohort of six projects reflects priorities in advanced manufacturing, industrial AI, robotics, semiconductors, and materials with digital enabling layers.
Vinnova selects projects based on the potential for transformative impact on Swedish industrial competitiveness, the quality and balance of the consortium, and the relevance to national strategic priorities. Given the SEK 58 million average award and only six projects funded in 2026, competition is highly selective and proposals must demonstrate strategic scale from the outset. The programme is reissued periodically as Vinnova's priorities evolve, rather than on a fixed annual cadence. Organizations considering an application should establish consortium relationships well in advance and align the project narrative to Vinnova's current published strategic priorities before the call opens.
