Vinnova — Sweden's Innovation Agency
Funds Swedish innovation through Vinnova grants, mission-aligned programs, and international planning support across digital, industrial, and startup fields.
Vinnova, Sweden's Innovation Agency, is Sweden's federal innovation agency under the Ministry of Climate and Enterprise. Its annual budget is about SEK 3 billion, and it backs innovation projects across the Swedish economy while also carrying Sweden's role in Horizon Europe and EUREKA.
The agency funds through grants, from small startup support to large mission-oriented consortia. Its current portfolio includes Innovative Startups, Mission-Oriented Innovation, Digital Industry, Strategic Innovation Programmes, Impact Innovation Programmes, Eurostars Sweden, and international planning grants. Award sizes run from SEK 28,200 in startup stage one to SEK 100 million or more for mission-aligned programmes, with the startup route capped at SEK 500,000 and planning grants at SEK 300,000 to SEK 500,000.
Vinnova organises its work around digital transformation, sustainable value chains, future-proof society, and emerging technologies and companies, with topic areas spanning health, materials, production, transport, security, startups, and climate-neutral transitions. It runs more than 40 calls at a time, uses competitive assessment and project reporting, and is strongest for applicants that can show Swedish benefit, a credible route to market or deployment, and fit with one of the agency's mission areas.
