NC IDEA ENGAGE is a rolling micro-grant program operated by NC IDEA, a private foundation in Raleigh, North Carolina. It provides grants of up to $5,000 to organizations and individuals running programs, events, or initiatives that strengthen North Carolina's entrepreneurship ecosystem. Applications are reviewed on a monthly basis, and decisions are typically issued within 4 to 6 weeks of submission. Grant funds must be spent within one year of award, and applications must be submitted at least 60 days before the activity's start date. Submissions are accepted exclusively through NC IDEA's online form at ncidea.formtitan.com — no email, fax, or mail applications are accepted.

The program is unusually broad in eligible applicant type. For-profit and nonprofit entrepreneur support organizations, local governments, colleges and universities, seed funds, angel groups, service providers, and individual community organizers are all eligible, provided the proposed activity is mission-aligned with inclusive and diverse entrepreneurship in North Carolina. Eligible activities include incubators and accelerators, pilot programs, new ecosystem initiatives, entrepreneurship-focused events, and student educational programs. Projects outside the Research Triangle Park concentration area and those explicitly serving underserved communities receive positive evaluation weight.

Evaluation criteria focus on mission alignment with diverse and inclusive entrepreneurship, support for companies targeting 50 or more employees or millions of dollars in revenue, the presence of concrete measurable metrics for the proposed activity, and geographic reach beyond major metropolitan hubs. There is no minimum award amount, and the maximum is $5,000 per grant. Because the review cycle is monthly and rolling, applicants can time their submissions to meet the 60-day lead requirement relative to their activity date. This structure makes ENGAGE particularly accessible for community organizers, educators, and service providers who operate on shorter planning horizons than formal startup programs.

Rolling micro-grants of up to $5,000 for North Carolina organizations and individuals running programs, events, or initiatives that strengthen the state's entrepreneurship ecosystem.
