The Parkinson's Foundation–ABF Clinical Research Training Scholarship is a two-year, USD 150,000 award co-funded by the Parkinson's Foundation and the American Brain Foundation. It supports clinician-researchers transitioning into Parkinson's disease science at US institutions. The scholarship provides USD 65,000 per year in salary support plus USD 10,000 per year in research expenses, totaling USD 150,000 over the two-year award period. Eligibility is restricted to members of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) who have completed residency or fellowship training within the past five years and are based at a US institution. International applicants are ineligible, and AAN membership is a mandatory prerequisite. The award is made to individuals, not institutions, and targets the critical early-career transition period when clinicians move from residency into a research-focused role. Only one track exists — there is no separate basic-science or clinical-neurology variant for this scholarship.
Applicants presenting a clear Parkinson's research focus and strong mentorship plan are most competitive, given the partnership structure between the two foundations. Because the full application deadline falls in early September — roughly six months earlier than the Parkinson's Foundation's main fellowship cohort — prospective applicants must identify mentors and complete institutional sign-off well in advance. The next cycle is expected to open in mid-2026 for a September 2026 deadline and a 2027 award start.
