The Army wants a small, lightweight fire control module that mounts to or pairs with the existing XM157 fire control system used on the Next Generation Squad Weapon, roughly the weight of a small apple. It should raise the odds of a first-round hit and keep working through adverse weather, obscured visibility and dirty battlefield conditions. Capabilities of interest include multi-spectral imagery, passive range-finding and targeting, sensing of live atmospheric conditions such as wind, weapon-orientation sensing, spectral conversion or hyperspectral imagery, aim augmentation, and aided target detection and tracking.
