National Agency for the Promotion of Research, Technology Development & Innovation (Agencia I+D+i)
Funds Argentina's innovation ecosystem through grants, loans, and shared programs for companies, universities, and startups.
Agencia I+D+i is Argentina's governing body for science, technology and innovation financing, channeling non-reimbursable grants (ANR) and reimbursable loans to research institutions, technology startups, and public-private consortia. It funds three thematic streams under the unified 'Apoyo I+D+i' brand: scientific research (historic FONCyT lineage), technology-based startups (historic FONTAR lineage), and knowledge-economy consortia (historic FONSOFT/FONARSEC lineage).
The agency reports to the Jefatura de Gabinete de Ministros via the Secretaría de Innovación, Ciencia y Tecnología — a structural change from the pre-2024 setup where it sat under MINCyT (which has been downgraded to a Secretariat under the Milei administration). Decree 447/25 restructured agency governance in 2025 for greater operational agility. Funding caps are quoted in USD-equivalent but disbursed in Argentine pesos, suggesting BID/IDB or World Bank loan backing.
A Directive Committee oversees operations. The current president is Lic. Natalia Avendaño. Headquartered at Godoy Cruz 2370, Buenos Aires.
