Science, Technology & Innovation Funding Authority
Funds Egyptian science, technology, and innovation research through competitive programs and institutional partnerships.
STDF is Egypt's Science, Technology & Innovation Funding Authority, established in 2007 under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It is the country's operational competitive-grants body for university and research-institution projects, distinct from the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology.
Its mechanisms span capacity building, development and innovation, centres of scientific excellence, national challenge calls, international cooperation, technology incubators, and targeted thematic calls. Domestic grants are paid in EGP, while bilateral tracks with BRICS, the EU, France, Germany, Japan, and others can carry USD or EUR top-line budgets with Egyptian-side caps; the portfolio here includes basic science, applied science, and Faculty for Factory routes.
STDF works best for teams anchored in Egyptian universities or research institutes that can show both scientific merit and a path to development or deployment. Its mix of domestic and bilateral calls rewards proposals that fit a defined theme, can survive review in a competitive call, and connect research to national priorities or international cooperation.
