Joint Egyptian Japanese Scientific Cooperation Research Projects
Funds Egyptian commercial enterprises, SMEs, universities, and research institutions pursuing joint research projects with Japanese partners.
Eligibility · Egypt and Japan
Egypt's Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority administers the Egyptian side of the Joint Egyptian Japanese Scientific Cooperation research-project grant with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. The Call 18 research-project track funds joint teams that establish new cooperation or extend existing Egyptian-Japanese cooperation in water, energy, food and agriculture, and ICT.
STDF funding for the Egyptian team is capped at EGP 750,000 per year and EGP 1,500,000 total per project. JSPS separately funds the Japanese team up to JPY 2,500,000 per fiscal year and JPY 5,000,000 total per project. The stored award fields use the Egyptian-side STDF cap because this catalog row is under STDF and the source gives that cap in Egyptian Pounds.
Egyptian state and private universities, higher-education research institutions, research institutions, and commercial enterprises including SMEs are eligible for funding. The project must include at least one Egyptian researcher and one Japanese researcher, so company applicants should expect a bilateral research-team structure rather than a single-company application.
Applications are due on September 3, 2026. The official guideline states the Egyptian-side deadline as 2:00 pm Egypt local time and the Japanese-side deadline as 5:00 pm Japan local time. Applicants should use the STDF portal for the Egyptian submission and coordinate the parallel Japanese-side submission with the JSPS partner.
