Protein Industries Canada
Supports plant-based protein ecosystems through consortium projects covering genetics, processing, food innovation, and related supply chains.
Protein Industries Canada is an industry-led not-for-profit cluster focused on the plant-based protein value chain, from genetics and crops through ingredients and finished foods. Based in Regina, it co-invests federal money through ISED and is working toward a 2035 market goal of CAD 25 billion in plant-based food and ingredient sales.
Its current portfolio includes Technology Leadership, a genomics stream, Artificial Intelligence, Capacity Building, and Strengthening the Canadian Supply Chain. Technology Leadership requires a consortium of three or more companies, including at least one Canadian SME, and it co-invests up to 45 percent of eligible project costs. The supply-chain route covers CAD 50,000 to 200,000 projects at up to 75 percent reimbursement over 12 months, and the record also shows continuous intake on general projects with closed EOIs on the supply-chain stream at the May 2026 fetch date.
PIC is built for consortia that can pair a Canadian SME with other partners, make the project incremental, and show commercial and sustainability value. Its best-fit teams can move Canadian feedstocks into scalable ingredients, products, or supply-chain gains while also advancing inclusion and economic reconciliation.
