National Science and Technology Development Agency
Provides National Science and Technology Development Agency as Thailand's source for competitive innovation grants and commercialization support.
The National Science and Technology Development Agency, known as NSTDA, is Thailand's main government science and technology agency under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. It was created to promote science and technology development for national benefit, and it now sits at the centre of Thailand's applied research and industrial support system. The agency combines grantmaking, research infrastructure, and commercialization support in one public platform.
NSTDA funds competitive research grants, SME technology assistance, equity co-investments, and R&D tax certification. Its programme set includes the NSTDA Research Chair Grant, NSTDA Chair Professor Program, NSTDA-NRCT High-Potential Research Team Grants, and the Innovation and Technology Assistance Program. Awards in the record range from THB 400,000 for ITAP to THB 20 million for the chair and research-team programmes. The agency also operates five national research centres - NECTEC, BIOTEC, MTEC, NANOTEC, and ENTEC - and manages Thailand Science Park, Software Park Thailand, and the Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation. Its sector coverage spans biotechnology, agritech, materials, medtech, artificial intelligence, quantum, energy, photonics, space, manufacturing, foodtech, and IoT edge.
NSTDA is strongest for teams that need applied research support, industrial validation, or a pathway from lab work into deployment. Its role goes beyond grants: it also certifies companies for Thailand's 300 percent R&D tax exemption and administers the Thai Innovation List procurement fast-track scheme. That mix of labs, parks, incentives, and competitive funding makes NSTDA relevant to universities, SMEs, and industry partners that need a public institution with both research capacity and commercialization reach.
