Win2Wal is an annual Walloon grant programme funding multi-partner industrial research consortia led by university or higher-education college departments, administered by the Service Public de Wallonie Économie, Emploi, Recherche (SPW-EER). The 2026 call allocated a budget of €12 million and focused on two thematic priorities: health innovations and agri-food/environmental management. The full-proposal deadline for the 2026 call was 14 April 2026; that call is currently in evaluation. The 2027 call is expected to open in November 2026 with a new thematic focus aligned to Wallonia's updated RIS3 smart specialization priorities. Academic partners (universities and higher-education colleges) receive 100% cost coverage; approved research centres receive 75% coverage; industrial sponsors receive no direct funding but provide a binding valorization commitment letter.
The lead promoter of a Win2Wal consortium must be a Walloon university department or higher-education college (haute école) department. At least one industrial sponsor — a company with headquarters or an operating site in Wallonia — is mandatory per consortium; the industrial sponsor confirms commitment to valorize the research results but does not receive a direct grant. Approved research centres (centres de recherche agréés) may join as partners at 75% cost coverage. Projects must align with the call's specific RIS3 thematic priorities; submissions that do not address the designated themes are ineligible. For-profit companies, nonprofits, and individuals cannot serve as lead promoters.
Win2Wal uses a two-stage process: a letter of intent (déclaration d'intention) is submitted first, followed by a full detailed proposal for teams that pass the initial screen. The programme has continued annually since its launch, and successful consortia in past calls have combined strong academic research leadership with credible industrial valorization pathways. Teams preparing for the 2027 call should monitor the SPW-EER website for the November 2026 launch announcement and begin assembling their industrial sponsor commitments and thematic alignment well before the call opens.
