This challenge wants community-based or community-oriented 501(c)3 nonprofits -- advocacy groups, faith-based organizations and similar -- that don't typically take part in federal research funding, and helps them build the infrastructure to pursue maternal health research relevant to their own communities. It's part of NIH's IMPROVE initiative, with a focus on groups serving women disproportionately affected by maternal mortality and pregnancy-related illness.
