ESA wants downstream services that use satellite communications, GNSS navigation and timing, and Earth observation to strengthen digital infrastructure such as telecom networks, cloud computing and data centres. Named uses include connectivity backup for terrestrial 5G networks, cyber-secure satellite links, GNSS timing synchronisation for networks and power grids, geo-fencing of physical digital assets, and satellite monitoring for network damage and disaster response. This is the sixth thematic area under ESA's 'Space for Infrastructure' call.
