Horizon Clean Waterborne Transport Systems
Funds two €7M projects to prevent fuel spills and pollution from waterborne transport while protecting marine, river and port ecosystems.
Waterborne transport is moving toward renewable low- and zero-carbon fuels, but new fuels and operating procedures can create unfamiliar risks for marine and inland waters. This topic funds two research projects to understand those risks and demonstrate practical ways to prevent, contain and reduce harmful impacts.

Evaluating, forecasting and mitigating environmental impacts of waterborne transport on marine, river, lake and port ecosystems, with particular attention to renewable low- and zero-carbon fuels and accidental spills. Projects should develop and demonstrate response scenarios, abatement and mitigation systems, pollution-source models, training and emergency preparedness, stakeholder-led solutions and TRL 5 demonstrations that improve Good Environmental and Good Ecological Status.
