Horizon Airport Air Quality and Noise
Funds two €3.5M research projects that measure airport pollution, noise and water impacts and turn the evidence into healthier nearby communities.
Airports support vital mobility but their operations can affect nearby communities through air pollution, noise, fuel and de-icing chemicals, water contamination and impacts on local ecology. This topic funds research that measures those effects in real-world conditions and turns the evidence into better emissions inventories, health assessment and environmental action.
Projects will test measure…
Research and pilot assessment of airport operations’ real-world air, noise and water impacts on nearby communities and ecosystems. Projects measure exhaust and non-exhaust pollutants, noise and water quality at two airports, assess health, biodiversity and local ecology with gender-disaggregated and intersectional evidence, improve emission factors and measurement certification, and reach TRL 5-6.
