Europe doesn't have a clear, shared picture of its own biomass — how much it has, where it comes from, and where it's going. That's a growing problem: the EU's forest carbon sink is shrinking in most countries, ecosystems need restoring, and biodiversity loss has to stop, all while businesses face rising demand for biomass as a feedstock. Building administration-light biomass monitoring, modelling and digital tools (which may draw on AI and remote sensing) that track biomass flows at regional, national and continental scale, with particular attention to places where sustainable biomass sits untapped. Producing an updated estimate of biomass supply and demand today and projected to 2050, at national and EU level, covering biomass quality, potential uses, sustainability risks, and demand that goes unmet for lack of sustainable supply, backed by 2050 scenarios for the EU's future bioresources. Testing and demonstrating that reporting approach with stakeholders in pilot regions spanning at least 10 European countries with different biomass-supply potential.
