Horizon Ocean Mission: Fisheries Co-Management
Funds fisher-led projects that restore marine and freshwater ecosystems while testing co-managed, sustainable fishing practices at real demonstration sites.
This topic funds projects that put fishers in charge of managing the marine and freshwater ecosystems they depend on, instead of managing fisheries and nature separately. It's part of the EU's Restore our Ocean and Waters Mission, and every proposal needs fishers — including small-scale and recreational fishers — as active partners from day one, not consulted once the plan is already written.

Testing and demonstrating, on the ground, co-management approaches that let fishers protect and restore one Mission basin's ecosystems while keeping fisheries viable. A proposal picks a single basin, runs demonstrations in at least 5 sites across 3 countries in it, and involves fishers — including small-scale and recreational fishers — from the start, through habitat restoration, low-impact fishing practices and tools, fish stock recovery, invasive-species control, blue carbon restoration, or citizen-science monitoring, while building the local governance and training needed to make it replicate elsewhere.
