Funds one research project up to EUR 5 million to build new ocean data assimilation techniques, including AI methods, for the Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service.
This single-stage Research and Innovation Action is paid as a lump sum, and the Commission will fund only one proposal from this topic regardless of how many strong applications come in. The work targets new data assimilation techniques that couple ocean, biogeochemistry, sea-ice, wave and atmosphere models together, alongside multi-scale methods that can handle both high-resolution, high-frequenc…
The Commission wants new coupled and multi-scale ocean data assimilation methods that make better use of new satellite and in-situ observations, including artificial intelligence techniques such as emulators for ensemble generation and model error estimation. It is also interested in tools that measure how much a given observing system actually improves the resulting forecasts.
