Leveraging artificial intelligence for pandemic preparedness and response

Funds EUR 6-8 million projects building trustworthy AI tools that help detect, forecast and respond to epidemics and pandemics.

ClosedEuropean CommissionUnited States

Leveraging artificial intelligence for pandemic preparedness and response is a European Commission grant that funds EUR 6-8 million projects building trustworthy AI tools to help detect, forecast and respond to epidemics and pandemics. The topic fixes its own pass marks: a proposal needs at least 4 out of 5 on each of Excellence, Impact and Implementation, and at least 12 combined, to be in the ru…

Proposals should develop new, or improve existing, AI-based tools aimed at the prevention, containment or control of infectious-disease epidemics, or at better response management of health systems. Work should assemble FAIR datasets from across the EU and Associated Countries to train and test AI tools for surveillance and monitoring, differential diagnosis and triage, and predicting drug response and disease progression, while using European Health Data Space and European Open Science Cloud infrastructure and addressing cybersecurity, privacy, trustworthiness and equity. Proposals should also identify technical, operational and social barriers to cross-border data access, and engage end-users, policymakers and regulators in developing, testing and validating the resulting tools.
