Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU)

Alternative biomanufacturing routes for natural and synthetic rubber

Funds research into biomanufactured alternatives to imported natural rubber and fossil-based synthetic rubber for automotive, healthcare and industrial uses.

This is a single-stage Research and Innovation Action inside the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking's work programme. The topic's own budget line sets a minimum and maximum EU contribution of EUR 3,500,000, with two grants expected, separate from the EUR 172,137,258 total that covers the whole CBE JU call across its thirteen sibling topics. Proposals are submitted once through the EU Fund…

The call wants identification and characterisation of rubber-bearing genetic sources — plants, yeast or microbial hosts — suitable for optimising natural or synthetic rubber biomanufacturing, plus development of high-yield biotechnology-based production routes. Proposals must test the resulting biomanufactured rubber in real end-products and address the sustainability and deforestation risks of the sourcing.

CycleiHow often this grant runs - e.g. annually, on a rolling basis, or a one-off call.No fixed schedule
