SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking

ATM impact on climate change

Funds research into how air traffic management affects noise, air quality and the climate.

ClosedSESAR 3 Joint UndertakingEU

The SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking, operating under Horizon Europe, funds one Research and Innovation Action for this topic as a lump-sum grant, with a EUR 500,000–1,000,000 EU contribution and a maximum project duration of 30 months. Proposals go through the standard single-stage EU Funding & Tenders Portal process, and winners must proactively share results with the other grants funded under the same…

This call funds research into how air traffic management (ATM) affects the climate and environment, covering noise and air-quality pollutants, the atmospheric physics behind extreme weather, and multi-scale multi-pollutant air-quality modelling. It also wants work on the environmental impact of new aircraft types, fuels and drone operations, plus new metrics for measuring ATM's environmental footprint, and improved detection and prediction of aviation contrails using satellite data and deep learning. Proposals must build on ongoing SESAR, EASA and Aviation Non-CO2 Expert Network work rather than duplicate it.
