This call funds research producing technical evidence for future EASA rulemaking on air traffic management, spanning the evolution of the human operator's role under increasing automation, air traffic controller fatigue and rostering, and safety-assurance methods for ATM/ANS ground equipment including cloud computing and off-the-shelf hardware. It also wants research on harmonising airspace classification across EU Member States, and on developing EASA guidelines for how AI-enabled ATM systems should be validated, made explainable, and certified as safety-critical. Proposals must coordinate closely with EASA and build on its existing studies and AI roadmap rather than start from scratch.
