Daphne Jackson Trust Fellowships

Funds part-time research fellowships for scientists returning after a long career break.

Between cyclesBritish Heart FoundationUnited Kingdom

BHF co-runs this scheme with the Daphne Jackson Trust, which handles the application process, retraining plan and mentoring directly. A successful applicant gets a part-time fellowship of up to three years that combines an individually tailored retraining programme with a real research project at a UK university. There is one application round per year.

BHF wants to bring experienced scientists back into cardiovascular research after they have stepped away for family, caring or health reasons. The break has to be substantial, and the returning researcher needs a PhD and ideally some postdoctoral track record.
