The principal investigator must be a senior researcher at an established UK research institution with a strong track record of BHF project funding and an internationally recognised research profile. Applicants first submit a preliminary Case for Support, capped at three A4 sides in Arial 12-point type, at least 18 months before the intended start date, covering the hypothesis, pilot data, expected

This is for basic science cardiovascular research, dataset-only studies, and population/patient cohort or experimental medicine studies that are too big or too long for a standard Project Grant — specifically anything costing more than £500,000 or lasting more than 4 years. It is not for renewable programmes of work or for clinical trials, which have their own grant types.
