The Crohn's & Colitis UK and Coeliac UK Joint Epidemiology Call is a one-off co-funded grant providing up to £125,000 for a 12–18 month epidemiological study using Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) Gold and Aurum linked to Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) data. The call was designed to generate new population-level evidence on coeliac disease, IBD (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), gluten ataxia, dermatitis herpetiformis, migraines, and comorbidities including Type 1 Diabetes and autoimmune thyroid disease. The 2026 call closed on 13 April 2026, with outcome notification in May 2026 and a project start date no later than September 2026. The grant is administered by Coeliac UK, not Crohn's & Colitis UK, and applications are submitted to research@coeliac.org.uk rather than through the Flexigrant platform.

A hard eligibility requirement is that the applicant's host institution must hold an active multi-study CPRD licence — individual study licences do not satisfy this condition. The research institution must be UK-based. Commercial organisations cannot apply; eligible hosts are universities and non-commercial research bodies. The review process incorporates both scientific peer review and lay review. Deliverables for funded projects include at least three manuscripts submitted for publication and preliminary data delivered by December 2026 or January 2027.

Because this was structured as a one-off joint call, any future epidemiology-focused opportunity under the same partnership would require a new announcement from either charity. Researchers interested in this type of work should monitor both Crohn's & Colitis UK and Coeliac UK research pages and ensure their institution maintains an active multi-study CPRD licence, as that credential is the single most important eligibility gate for this type of call.

Epidemiological data on coeliac disease, IBD (Crohn's, UC), gluten ataxia, dermatitis herpetiformis, migraines, and comorbidities (Type 1 Diabetes, autoimmune thyroid disease) using CPRD Gold/Aurum and HES data.
