Route one covers purchase and set-up of strategic infrastructure, including capital and digital infrastructure. Route two covers resources to support existing strategic infrastructure, intended to maximise usage of existing equipment that has already been procured, delivered and installed. Research enabled by the infrastructure must be within EPSRC remit. Route one does not fund laboratory refurbishment, underpinning equipment, software including licences, research software development or cloud computing credits. Route two does not fund capital costs, long-term research projects, or replacement of existing support, maintenance, service contracts or capital costs.
