Scottish Scale EDGE
Supports scaling Scottish technology businesses with hybrid grant-loan funding and growth recognition.
Eligibility · United Kingdom · UK-SCT
Scottish Scale EDGE is a named sub-prize category within the Scottish EDGE competition, Scotland's largest funding competition for high-growth startups and small businesses. Scale EDGE is sponsored by Royal Bank of Scotland and is awarded annually to a scaling Scottish business that demonstrates exceptional growth trajectory within the main Scottish EDGE competitive assessment process. In Round 26 (December 2025), Scale EDGE awarded £100,000 structured as a 70% loan and 30% grant package, consistent with the instrument classification (loan) in the program record.
Scale EDGE is contested as part of the wider Scottish EDGE round, which runs on an annual cycle. Round 27 opened February 25, 2026, closed March 25, 2026, and concluded at the EDGE Final on June 11, 2026, with winners announced at the EDGE Awards Dinner on June 18, 2026. Applicants must be based in Scotland, apply through the Scottish EDGE Online Application Portal, submit a three-minute video pitch, and be assessed across six criteria: Value Proposition, Team, Impact, Customer Focus, Business Growth, and Utilisation of Funding. Scale EDGE targets companies at a more advanced commercial stage than the core early-stage Scottish EDGE tiers, with the structured record indicating TRL 5–8 eligibility.
For scaling Scottish companies, Scale EDGE offers a meaningful hybrid loan-grant instrument alongside public recognition and access to Scottish EDGE's expert partner network — including discounted legal, accounting, insurance, and IP services. The total Round 27 prize pool across all categories was £1.5 million. Companies that have outgrown early-stage programs but are not yet large enough for institutional venture rounds represent the best fit for this prize.
Scottish Scale EDGE awards up to £100,000 in hybrid grant-loan funding to high-growth, scaling businesses headquartered in Scotland, contested within the annual Scottish EDGE competition.
