This is the funding for that shared layer, not for the individual projects themselves. It backs three kinds of NCI-designated centre: Comprehensive Cancer Centers, with real depth and breadth across basic labor…

Core infrastructure and shared-resource support for NCI-designated Comprehensive, Clinical or Basic Cancer Centers, integrating an institution's cancer research across basic laboratory, clinical, and prevention, control and population-based work, gated on an existing funding base of $10,000,000 or $6,000,000 a year in cancer-focused NIH support depending on centre type. Clinical trials are optional.
