Small-scale, investigator-initiated mechanistic and/or minimal risk clinical trials at institutions awarding baccalaureate or advanced science degrees that received no more than $6 million a year of NIH support in four of the last seven fiscal years, primarily providing biomedical research experience for health professional, undergraduate and graduate students. A minimal risk clinical trial is required.
