A Holistic Approach to Study Non-Addictive Natural Products for Pain Management

Funds mechanistic research into how non-addictive natural products actually relieve chronic pain, across the whole body.

Millions of people already use botanicals, supplements and other natural products for pain, long before science has caught up with why — or whether — they work. This notice funds closing that gap, as part of the NIH HEAL Initiative's push for safe, non-addictive pain relief.

The scope is collaborative, interdisciplinary research into non-addictive natural products for chronic pain, taking a holis

Collaborative, interdisciplinary, mechanistic research into non-addictive natural products (botanicals, dietary supplements and other naturally derived compounds) for chronic pain, examining coordinated action across digestive, immune, vascular, musculoskeletal, lymphatic, metabolic and nervous-system pathways, dose optimisation under a hormesis model, and intervention timing relative to the phases of pain and inflammation. Part of the NIH HEAL Initiative.
