Feasibility studies — mixed-methods or feasibility clinical trials — that are scientifically necessary to design a later definitive trial (efficacy, effectiveness, pragmatic, dissemination and implementation, or phase II or later), assessing recruitment, randomisation, retention, intervention delivery, data collection, adherence and acceptability, or adapting intervention components and protocols. The definitive trial that follows must have the potential for significant public health impact.
