XPRIZE Quantum Applications
Awards a $5 million prize purse to teams that design quantum algorithms and applications ready to deliver real-world impact once quantum hardware matures.
Teams first competed in a Phase I round judged on novelty and plausible real-world impact, which narrowed the field down to seven finalists announced in December 2025, drawn from 133 submissions across 31 countries. A separate wildcard registration window let a further group of teams join Phase II directly in early 2026. Phase II finalists must now produce benchmarked evidence of their algorithm's…
Looks for quantum algorithms and applications that could tackle major real-world problems in areas such as health, climate, energy and materials science once larger-scale quantum hardware exists. A winning entry can be an entirely new algorithm, a new real-world use for an existing algorithm, or a way to cut the quantum resources an existing algorithm needs. Teams must back their claims with resource estimates and comparisons against the best classical methods, not just a theoretical sketch.
