FINEP Economic Subsidy (Subvenção Econômica; Mais Inovação Brasil)
Supports Non reimbursable economic subsidy grants for Brazilian companies doing high risk innovation development aligned to national industrial priorities.
FINEP Subvenção Econômica is FINEP’s non-reimbursable company grant line, funded through the Fundo Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico and aligned to the Nova Indústria Brasil industrial agenda. It supports Brazilian companies taking on high-risk R&D projects that need public subsidy rather than a repayable loan, and it is the grant route that sits alongside FINEP’s separate research-infrastructure and credit lines. The 2026 cycle, Mais Inovação Brasil Rodada 2, allocates R$ 3.3 billion across thematic editais covering areas such as circular economy, mineral transformation, energy transition, health, agro-industrial chains, and the defence industrial base. Applicants must be Brazilian for-profit companies operating in Brazil and providing contrapartida, and universities or research institutions are not the principal applicants. In defence-related calls, an ICT must participate as co-executor, and the published thematic windows run between August and September 2026. This route suits companies that have a clear industrial R&D problem and need shared risk to move it forward. The best fits usually combine a company-led project with external technical capability, especially where the work is close to commercialization but still carries enough uncertainty to justify subsidy. Because the modality is non-reimbursable, it is distinct from FINEP’s loan products and is the right route when the applicant needs grant capital rather than credit.
