FINEP Mais Inovação Brasil — Circular Economy & Sustainable Cities (Economia Circular e Cidades Sustentáveis)
Funds Brazilian companies advancing circular economy, smart city, and climate-smart innovation models.
FINEP Mais Inovação Brasil — Economia Circular e Cidades Sustentáveis is one of thirteen thematic editais under the flagship Mais Inovação Brasil Rodada 2 programme, which collectively mobilises R$ 3.3 billion in non-reimbursable grants across Brazil's priority innovation sectors. This thematic call allocates R$ 150 million to company-led innovation projects in circular economy, sustainable cities, bioeconomy, smart cities, sanitation, and water security. Funding is delivered as non-reimbursable subvenção econômica via the Fundo Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (FNDCT). The programme is operated by FINEP, the Brazilian federal innovation agency under MCTI.
Only Brazilian-registered for-profit companies (empresas brasileiras) are eligible as the principal executor of funded projects. Research institutions (ICTs) may participate as co-executors and are encouraged though not mandatory. A financial counterpart contribution (contrapartida) from the applicant company is required, with the exact proportion set by the edital rules. Per-project award size is not specified in the available sources; the R$ 150 million pool is distributed competitively among approved projects. All applications, supporting documentation, and project deliverables must be in Portuguese.
The submission deadline is 31 August 2026. Applications are submitted through the FINEP platform at cadastro.finep.gov.br. Evaluation follows FINEP's standard merit-review process for subvenção calls, assessing technical merit, innovation degree, market potential, and alignment with thematic priorities. Companies planning to apply should obtain and read the full edital document directly from the FINEP website, as per-project award floors and ceilings, contrapartida proportions, and detailed scoring rubrics are specified there.
