Innovation Works
Supports southwestern Pennsylvania ventures through grant and accelerator routes designed for manufacturing, software, and technical innovation teams.
Innovation Works is a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit investor serving southwestern Pennsylvania. Founded in 1988, it sits inside the Ben Franklin Technology Partners network as one of four independent regional organizations and is funded through Pennsylvania's Department of Community and Economic Development via the Ben Franklin Technology Development Authority.
Its capital stack mixes seed funding, accelerator support, and manufacturing grants for early-stage companies in hardware, manufacturing, AI infrastructure, medtech, robotics, and biotech. The organization says it has deployed more than $120 million across 780-plus companies, and its named vehicles include AlphaLab, the Robotics Factory, the Scalable Grant Program, the Innovation Adoption Grant, and the Innovation Works Seed Fund.
Innovation Works pairs entrepreneurs with managing directors and gives founders access to investors, universities, and technology companies across the nine-county Pittsburgh region. The record points to a team that backs commercialization with both equity-style investment and small reimbursement grants, while using its regional network to push companies from prototype stage toward follow-on capital and exits.
