ZonMw, the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development, is an independent Dutch research council focused on health, healthcare, and well-being. It was formed from the ZON Act structure established in 1998 and the later partnership with the medical sciences domain of the Dutch Research Council in 2001, and it works under commissioning from the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and NWO.

ZonMw funds the full knowledge chain from fundamental research to implementation. Its calls cover infectious disease control, medicines use, long-term care, prevention, and implementation work, and current programme lines include Infectious Disease Control 2025-2030, Good Use of Medicines, Prevention Programme 7, and the NWA Drug Harm reduction line, which has a total budget of EUR 4,270,951 and a pre-proposal ceiling of EUR 1,067,737.75.

The organisation is built around programming and funding, connecting researchers with policymakers and practitioners, and pushing useful findings into everyday care. It also supports international programmes and co-funded work, so the strongest applicants are consortia that can move a health idea from evidence to practice and show that the results will matter in real service settings.
